“Gloria” by Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir
Psalm 130: 1-8
The Psalmist professes his hope in prayer, and his patience in hope
A Song of degrees.
1. Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.
2 Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
3 If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.
5 I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
6 My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.
7 Let Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
8 And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
“Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.”
The Lord is the true Shepherd of our souls. Throughout our lives He guides us past and through multiple unseen and unknown dangers. The world is a frightening place, even for the terrors and the devils we can see. Far more treacherous, though, is the evil that is cloaked in the dark places that we cannot see inside hearts and minds of men. When we are frightened, when we are beat down into and beyond the dust, the Lord hears our cries. When we repent of our sins, He forgives us. When we are downcast, He lifts us up. When we pass through seasons of hopelessness, He remains steadfast. Because Jesus stands, because He has overcome, we stand, and we overcome. Our God is alive. He is all wisdom, power, majesty and love. We can truly rely upon His goodness, mercy and strength: More than they that watch for the morning, yea, more than they that watch for the morning. Our comfort, and restoration is more sure that the movement of the planets and the sun around which they revolve. Because His promises are true and sure, we wait on the Lord. Are you waiting on Him today?
Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10)
