The Word for Today Is #Fatherless

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

Fathers protect their families and communities. When fathers are absent, children are more likely to drop out of school, experiment with drugs, and spend time in jail.

Biological fathers help to procreate, but good fathers actively guide and teach their children lessons that will make them builders of families and society rather than destroyers of both. Good fathers also correct and discipline their children in ways that will help them increase in wisdom and strength.

Unfortunately, millions of fathers are absent from the lives of their children. Some die before their time, and others choose to vanish, leaving their offspring fatherless. Fatherhood is hard work. It demands sacrifice, and a willingness to be selfless. In many ways, fatherhood is a cross to be carried. With the grace of God, it can be carried well. But all is not loss when fathers die or leave the home. The Bible assures us that there is help for the fatherless. Psalm 27:10 says:

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

Widows and orphans need not fear. The Lord has promised to be their father and protector. The word for today is #fatherless:

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. Psalm 68:4-5 NIV

Faith in God and following the path of Christ gives us the wisdom and strength to love, teach, and protect our families. Do you know a fatherless child? What can you do to help?

Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might!”
