The Invisible Power of God
“The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?” John 4:11 (KJV)

For 2000 years Jesus has offered “living water” to those who don’t want to ever thirst again. Some people walk away, but there are many who say “Gimme dat!”
How often do we, like the woman at the well, marvel at the depth of our problems (“the well is deep”) and marvel even more at the Savior’s promise to help us, being that we see no way out (“Thou hast nothing to draw with”). Our mistake is that we see the Lord Jesus only as we see ourselves. Because we have nothing to draw with, and we can’t see or imagine how He can solve the problem, we are stumped. The problem with many Christians is that we only have shallow head faith, where we recall at a distance the mighty acts of God as recorded in the Bible, and we say: “But that was so long ago.” Then we move to a fog to recall something incredible that the Lord has done for a friend or family member, and we say: “That was nice what He did for them.” Many never get to the bridge called faith where we say like our ancestors: “If He did it for them, He can do it for me.” Caught in a sand trap of low self-esteem and low self-worth, and the sins of pride and unbelief, we can’t imagine how anyone can help us, especially since we can’t see any resources that He would or could use to help us.
It is pitiful that we cannot grasp the omnipotence and mercy of the “only wise God.” It is to our detriment that we despair. Like Jesus said to the woman at the well: “If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.” John 4:10 (KJV) Ahhh, if we “only knew the gift of God and Who it is that saith…” We doubt because we don’t know the gift of God, and we don’t know Who it is that has given to us the mighty truths and promises of the living word of God and words of God.
The gifts of God are too many to count. Jesus Christ in the greatest gift God has given to humanity. It is written: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3: 16). The Holy Spirit, Who gives power to believers in Christ is another gift: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth Acts 1:8. Here are two other gifts of God that we tend to take for granted:
Eternal life:
Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Good things of life:
Ecclesiastes 3:13
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
1 Corinthians 7:7
For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
The gifts of God are: eternal life, all the good things in our lives, and all the raw materials placed within us, (with which we are to serve the body of Christ and make known His kingdom here on earth).
Regarding Who we have petitioned help, and Who has commanded us to live: Who is He? He is Jesus, Whose name means salvation: Who saves us from eternal damnation and the traps of the enemy here on earth. As the Bible says in Isaiah 9:6:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
1 Peter 5:7 says: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
Philippians 4:6 says: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
And Romans 12:21 says: “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
In John 16:33, Jesus said:
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Our instructions are simple: We are to overcome evil with good. Be of good cheer because our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, has overcome the world! Let your requests be made known unto God, Who has all power, Who has given unto us the water of life that we may have life that is eternal and abundant.
Having learned these things, what is my prayer? My prayer is: Father forgive me the sins of pride and unbelief. I have not seen you as the mighty God, and I have doubted your power to help me in my everyday life. Lord, please make me a overcomer. Help me to overcome evil with good, and to bring all the pertains to my life to you, that I may live in the strength of your love and wisdom, to the glory of your holy and precious name. Amen.
Until next time, “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might!”
