God Promises New Blessings Every Morning

Sometimes you can get so bogged down in the details of living that you wake up dreading the hours ahead instead of rejoicing that the blessings of God are “new every morning.” Lamentations 3:22-24 says:

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

So the word of God promises that God’s compassions are forever present. Every day in your life has its own unique circumstances, requiring compassions specific for its own events. According to Strong’s Talking Greek and Hebrew dictionary, the word “compassions” is the pleural form of mercy, and it also means “womb.” This implies tenderness, as a mother cherishes her unborn child. That means that God’s compassions are multiple mercies wherein He loves and cherishes us tenderly, as a mother cherishes her unborn child.

Unlike frail human love and mercy, God’s compassions are consistent, enduring, dynamic, and tailor-made for whatever is happening in your life. Before anything happens to you, the Lord’s mercies are already waiting to encourage, strengthen, protect, and sustain you. So, instead of dreading the events of the day, rejoice that you have been given grace to see the day, and mercies to help you live through it. Anticipate seeing God’s cherished, tender compassions.

But what exactly are these compassions that are present every day even before we wake up? Some people think that the blessings and mercies that are new every morning include extra money to pay the bills, meeting a future husband, or other material things. It’s true that sometimes your days might hold such blessings. But, before you tie your hopes on what or who your blessing will be, remember that God’s grace is enough. That means that sometimes your gift will be simple satisfaction for whatever efforts you have put forth at home or work.

At the end of the day, when you take off your shoes to go to bed, thank God that you have shoes to take off, two feet and ten toes to put in those shoes, and a bed to lay down in. In some parts of the world, even in your own city, such things are luxuries. When you’re tempted to feel frustrated about what you do or do not have, or what is or is not happening in your life, stop. Allow yourself a ‘Selah!” moment. Breathe deeply and say to your soul: “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.” Amen? Amen!

When was the last time you relied on the promises of God? Think about it!
