John 4:23-24

New International Version (NIV)

23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

About Worship

There are many ways to worship our Lord. Some people worship through song, dance, and praise. Many believers worship privately. Most of us praise God in song as we lift our hands to Him in churches all over the world and in our homes, worshipping God for His goodness and mercy, and thanking Him for our daily blessings.  In many countries worshipping is restricted to the national religion. Thank God those of us in the US have the freedom to openly praise and worship our mighty God!

Worship is more than an earthly thing. As a matter of fact, it is happening in Heaven right now. Angels are singing “Holy, Holy, Holy” to God night and day without stopping (Rev 4:8), so praise should always be in our mouths and hearts too!

We Were Created to Worship God

We are created to praise and worship God. There is a void in our lives when we leave God out of our plans and dreams. Even when the Lord is absent from our thoughts, we try to fill that void. Our lives are empty when we replace God with many foolish things of this world, like worshipping movie stars, sport figures, famous preachers, etc. We are spirit beings who have a need to worship, so if we don’t worship God, we will worship something. The things will use to replace the presence of God in our lives become idols.

Worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth

There are millions of people who do not take worship seriously. Many churches fail to fill to capacity because people do not think they have a need for corporate worship. People choose to stay at home for various reasons: Some have church hurt, and still others have never been truly taught about God.

If You Are Struggling in Your Worship

If you are struggling to know more about God, I recommend that you spend time in prayer and reading God’s Word. The Book of John is a good place to start. It talks about all the aspects of Jesus as being fully God and fully man. The book of Psalms has many wonderful songs of praise and worship written by David, the Sons to Asaph, and others. You can use psalms in your private prayer time. You can sing them in your heart while busy doing other things at work or in your home. Keeping the word of God in your heart keeps your spirit strong and resilient.

We should worship the Lord in spirit and in truth in our daily lives. It is a true path to staying connected to our Heavenly Father, Who is willing and able to help us in all areas of our lives. He sent His Son and the Holy Spirit to guide us daily. So, don’t be shy: “Oh come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!” (Psalm 95:6)
