My Sisters: An Audio Poem in Celebration of Black Women Everywhere

But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. Psalm 59:16 KJV

“My Sisters” is a poem I wrote to celebrate the beauty, strength, creativity and soul-survivorship of Black women everywhere throughout space-time. It is one of the first works I produced at my newly established E-graphX Omnimedia studio, in the heart of Gullah-Geechee territory of Port Royal, SC.

My Sisters

My sisters are spirit-filled, solace seeking

strong, serene, somber, sensuous survivors,

with surrendered, secured, surreptitious,

suffering, sepia souls.

We are singers of solo songs,

sorrowing past slavery

with seasoned insight,

spinning sunsets.
