The Word for Today Is #Majesty

In the 90s I traveled to Washington, DC to have dinner with President Bush. While standing in line to sign in at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, there was a flurry of activity as King Juan Carlos of Spain arrived. When I inquired about all the fuss, one of the guests standing nearby told me that not only had the King arrived, but he came with unusual cargo – his personal bed from his palace in Spain. Such is the expectations and privilege of royalty.

Living in a capitalist society makes it difficult to imagine what royal life is like. While words like “majesty” and “glory” aren’t words that we use everyday, but they are words that very much apply when it comes to describing God. 1 Chronicles 29:11 tells us that God is great, powerful, glorious, victorious and majestic owner of all the is in Heaven and Earth. The word majesty means more than just beauty; it also means goodly, honorable, and imposing form and appearance. In other words, majesty implies righteousness.

History lets us know that earthly kings and queens are often far from being good and honorable, but they often excel at wearing beautiful clothes and building grand residences. Jesus is King of Kings and Lords of Lords, yet He left the riches of Heaven and came to Earth as a sacrifice for our sins. He rose again and sits on the right hand of God, daily interceding for us.

Jesus is goodly and honorable. He sits at the right hand of God, we know that He is imposing in form and appearance as well. You may never see an earthly king in your lifetime, but if you know Jesus, you are a son or daughter of the Most High God, and His goodness and majesty live in your heart. The word for today is #majesty:

Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. 1 Chronicles 29:11 KJV

If you were a king or a queen, how would you use your goodness and majesty today? How would you think about yourself?

Until next time, “Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might!”
