1 Peter 3:13-15 (KJV)
13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? 14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
Who Done You Wrong?
I don’t know about you, but when someone “does me wrong” and I haven’t done anything wrong, I tend to get angry and indignant. Sometimes I even want to fight back and get even. What’s wrong with that? After all it’s only natural, right? But. Therein lies the problem. The behavior of Christians should be rooted in Christ – Who is supernatural. For us, doing what is natural means we do what our flesh wants to do, regardless of what the Lord has to say about it. Simply put, this is an attitude of rebellion. To rebel against God is NEVER a good thing.
Today’s verse tells us that instead of getting caught up in anger and frustration when we suffer for righteousness sake, we are to be happy. What? That is a tall order. As a matter of fact it is an impossible order for the natural mind. But by the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within the hearts of all Believers we are able to die to self and live as Christ would have us to. When we have “the mind of Christ” we can see why and how to be joyous even when we suffer wrongfully.
There are millions of Christians who are bullied, ignored and abused in their homes, at school and on their jobs because of their faith in and allegiance to Jesus. Even so, we are to be happy because God is greater than our circumstances. God is just and all powerful. He has promised to make all things work together for the good for those who love Him, and He has the authority and power to make it so.
So the next time you are slighted or abused despite having done the right thing – smile. Your Abba in Heaven will grant you to power to endure and prosper. He will set the table before you in the presence of your enemies and cause your cup to overflow. May God’s goodness and mercy overtake you today and everyday.
Don’t forget to bless the name of the Lord and to be a blessing to someone today.
Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10)
