2 Chronicles 16:9 (KJV): 9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Rev 8:4-5 (KJV): 4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand. 5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
Your Prayers Shake-up the World
Compared to the great size of heavenly bodies and the greatness of the Lord, we humans are quite small and vulnerable. Because we are aware of our smallness and vulnerability, we might also think that our communication with the Lord, (our prayers), are likewise small. The Bible; however, says the opposite. According to the Word of God, our prayers are powerful. James 5:16 says:
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (Emphasis, mine)
Keep in mind that it is the prayer of a “righteous” person that avails much. A heart that is right with God prays powerful prayers that are answered. Being right with God involves a lifestyle of prayer, and diligent study of God’s word, which enables us to have the mind of Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Rev 8:4-5 gives us a glimpse into the magnitude of the power that the prayers of the righteous have. We see how the prayers of the saints mingle with incense on the altar of the Lord. The smoke of the incense mingled with the prayers of the saints, rises out of the hand of the angel into the presence of the Lord. When we consider that the distance between Earth and the nearest star outside of our solar system is 4.22 lightyears, it is amazing that prayers spoken on Earth travel to Heaven itself, which is infinitely further away in terms of dimensionality and physical reality. Please note that a lightyear is the distance traveled in one year when moving at the speed of light which is 186,000 miles per second.
Even more amazing is how the angel casts the fire from the altar where the incense is mingled with our prayers, and casts it to the Earth. The impact causes “voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.” Things get all shook-up! The prayers which seem so small and helpless to us, ascend before the Lord GOD Himself, and initiates tumultuous changes on Earth.
Today, has your life been turned upside down? Perhaps someone has prayed for your break-through, but in order for you to receive it, the world around you has to be reconfigured. Let it change. Maybe you’re distressed because something that needs to change hasn’t changed. Pray, and make it change. Just as important is for you to pray and let the Lord change you!
Earthquakes cause landscapes to change. Likewise, prayers change the world-at-large and the world around you. Need a change? Pray! Let us get on our knees and pray to the Lord everyday!
May these words educate, comfort and encourage you to pray today. Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might!” (Ephesians 6:10).
