“Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.” Job 8:7 (NIV)

Job was a very wealthy businessman who lived in ancient times. The Bible tells us about his prosperity and his suffering. Job was a God-fearing man who had everything: intelligence, riches, community respect, a beautiful family, vast real estate, and cattle. Yet he lost it all – suddenly. He did not mismanage his money or abuse his family and neighbors. He lost everything because his faith was being tested and put on display by God. Through it all, Job learned that he had no friend but God. Even his own wife told him to “curse God and die.” Despite the loss of his health, wealth and family, Job kept his faith in God. In the end, God rewarded Job for his faithfulness, and he wound up with even more sons, daughters, money, land, and respect, than what he had before. Have you experienced great losses (nowadays, who hasn’t)? Perhaps you’ve suddenly lost your job, family, or health. Maybe family and “friends” openly scoff as you struggle with your difficulties. There may not be much that you can do, but you can hold on to your faith. Faith is priceless, and works miracles. Like Job 8:7 says: “Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.”
