Dartmouth’s X.ado and MIT’s Cross Products join forces and sing “And Can It Be” (by Charles Wesley, ) on 11/10/07.
Heb 2:13 (KJV)
And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
What a cause for joy! That Jesus Christ our Savior, Master of the Universe, Lord of Heaven and Earth would present us Father God! We are the children that the Lord has given to Jesus, and He has kept and sustained us all. He has delivered us from the jaws of death, washed us from the filth of this world, and given us the breath of life to live and living water flowing from His side to drink. There is no intimacy greater than this. No gift more precious or great. That we should live at all, let alone stand uncondemned before God, is a miracle that only God was willing to and did perform.
In Ezekiel 16: 4-7 (English Standard Version, ESV), the Lord gives a graphic description of our rescue:
4 …on the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to cleanse you, nor rubbed with salt, nor wrapped in swaddling cloths. 5 No eye pitied you, to do any of these things to you out of compassion for you, but you were cast out on the open field, for you were abhorred, on the day that you were born.
6 “And when I passed by you and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!’ I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!’ 7 I made you flourish like a plant of the field.
There is no greater love, compassion, majesty or power than that which was shown to us by our Heavenly Father. This is more than sufficient cause for us to praise GOD daily. Let everything that hath breath, praise the Lord!
Today’s verse also contains a mystery. To whom is Jesus speaking when He says “Behold I and the children which God hath given me?” Is He speaking to all creation? Is He presenting Himself and us as the Children of God (His magnificent gifts), to all the worlds and ages that He has spoken into being? We do not know for sure, but what a fantastic presentation! What stage is this on which we stand and will stand with Jesus, the one and only Master of the Universe? Being that we are in the presence of such glory and power, let us humbly accept our presentation, and praise GOD; thanking Him by living lives that are pleasing unto Him. Let this be our determination today.
Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10)
