The Word for Today Is #Tears

Aretha Franklin sings, “Mary Don’t You Weep.” If video does not immediately appear, please refresh your browser.

There are tears of joy and laughter, and there are tears of sorrow. The death of someone you love causes sorrow that can unleash a river of tears the flows for years into our lives while touching the lives of others. Some people grieve so deeply they risk drowning in their own tears. Sorrowing tears were not given to us to destroy us. Instead, they are like a pressure valve that expresses pain. Tears communicate pain that we can’t articulate. In that way, tears are cleansing. Tears are also a call for comfort: Those who care comfort those who weep. Abused people cry tears that do not evoke sorrow from the people around them, but God sees their tears. The tears of the broken-hearted are not despised by our God Who is love. The promise that one day there will be no more cause for crying should comfort every Christian. The word for today is #tears.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21: 4 KJV

Oh Mary, don’t you weep.

Tell Martha not to moan.

Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might!”
