Whether We Fail or Sail: God’s Grace Is Sufficient

“We Fall Down, We Get Up” by  Donnie McClurkin. (Stereo sound, best heard with headphones.)

2 Tim 4:7-8 (KJV)
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Faith and Failure

We fall down and fail many times in life. Even when we pray, study our Bibles, and strive to be mindful of the things of God, we are tempted and fall short. The temptation of failure though, is to be intimidated by it. Intimidation by failure can cause us to lose hope for future successes and growth. When we allow ourselves to be intimidated by failure, we fail twice, and fall short twice. Why is that? Because, intimidation by fear opposes faith in God for healing and restoration, and that which opposes our faith is not of God. Also being intimidated by failure is rooted in a deep assumption that we are ashamed that we are not able to be the author of our own success. When we succeed, God is the author of the success, and we should give Him the glory for it. Intimidation by fear, then, could be a hidden form of rebellion, where we believe that if we are unable to pick ourselves up, then we will never rise from the ashes. This fear is unnecessary. The Bible says:

Romans 5:6
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Ephesians 2:7-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

We received the greatest gift in the universe at a time when we were in cahoots with the devil and living in absolute rebellion against Almighty God. Christ died for us when we were opposed to our own salvation. We could not even have come to God, if He had not first drawn us. Don’t get me wrong: Nobody likes egg on their face. When we lose face, God’s grace is still sufficient.

Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10)
