Can Our Land Be Healed?

Healed?

Through Christ, everyone and all nations can be healed.

Can our land be healed? The United States is a mighty but wounded nation. God has blessed us to get a level of prosperity and power unrivaled in the history of civilization. Yet, American Christians allowed our love for God and each other to grow cold. We defile and murder children with impunity. We praise our elected officials for acts of “spiritual wickedness in high places.” Smooth-talking political stalkers deceive even those who value righteousness. In the eyes of millions, truth is conditional. Our mass culture has become a shrine of darkness, populated by the heroes of media, who are adulterers, murderers, liars, serial killers, lawless drug dealers, demons and monsters of darkness both natural and supernatural. Hosea 6: 1 & 2 (KJV), says:

Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

We have forgotten that our ancestors saw this nation as a safe haven for the worship of the Almighty One. The rich increasingly see themselves as the only population justified to live in and rule our nation. For those of us whose ancestors were forced to come as slaves: Our ancestors chose the truth of freedom in Christ Jesus over the bitterness of racial hatred, and in the process found mental health balance.

Natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy, 911 and Katrina remind American citizens of just how powerless we are. When things calmed down, we promptly forgot and returned to our selfish, hard-hearted ways. Natural disasters are a refresher course in our dependence upon God. A not so subtle reminder that “without Him we are nothing.” But – God is merciful: “He hath torn, and He will heal us; He hath smitten, and He will bind us up.” God allows disasters to remind us that He is, and that He alone has the power and authority to calm the storm. So how do we get out from under the rubble of spiritual lawlessness and destruction? For those who have faith in Christ, the answer is straight forward. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) says:

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

The Lord is mighty to heal the hearts of this nation. So pray. Repent. Listen for the voice of God, who alone has the power to forgive our personal and collective sins and heal our land.

Be a blessing to someone today.

Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10)
