Love Your Brother

1 John 3:14-19 (KJV)

14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

Love Your Brother

The LORD is more than able and willing to guide His children to perfection. He does not harden His heart against His children, but is always available to forgive and guide those who love Him. Loving GOD means that we both hear His word and act in accordance to His will. As the Lord shapes us, He expects us to become more Christ-like. The more we think and live the mind of Christ, the more our reality and the consequences of our actions will line up with the word of GOD. When we see suffering, we will be moved to respond righteously. We will respond where there is need and not withhold help, because the outstretched hand of our Savior will compel us to move righteously. When we speak, we will speak the truth. Our utterances will be in unity with the oracles of GOD, and His Word does not return void, but must accomplish that which it is set out to do.

To love The LORD and worship Him in spirit and in truth is our highest aim and most righteous goal. When we love the Lord, we are able to love and have compassion for others. When the light of Christ shines through our words and actions, those around us will be compelled to see Him. It is written, and we are reminded:

“…love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10)
