What Did Christ’s Passion Really Look Like?

Ecce Homo. A painting of Jesus Christ, by Verneda Lights.

Ecce Homo (Behold the Man”). Pencil, charcoal and acrylic on paper. 18 in x 24 in. © 2003 Verneda Lights.

I painted this picture of Jesus to show what really happened to Him. The crucifixion of Jesus has been so sanitized that I was forced to artistically weigh in on the subject. Note that Jesus’ nose is split, and His nasal bones are exposed. Patches of His hair have been torn out. Not shown is the hole in His side that occurred by accident when the paper tore. I called it “Ecce Homo” (“Behold the Man”) which were the words used by Pontius Pilate when he presented the scourged Jesus to the crowd. No body likes this painting. I wonder why. The painting is 18 x 24 inches, pencil, charcoal and acrylic on paper.
