What’s All This Fuss About Jesus?

During Easter season three years ago, I had a very busy morning. I was going about posting devotions on the net. Next thing I knew, I was busy doing other stuff. You could say that I  was very busy in being diligent.

Then it happened. A still small voice made a simple pronouncement, not in the air around me, but in the air space “within me,” which is my spirit. The words were very distinct: “Him hath God exalted.” Oh, I thought, Yes, God has exalted Jesus. The thought made my heart glad, but still I kept busy. The voice repeated: “Him hath God exalted.”

This went on back and forth for a few minutes. I was so busy, I almost lost the trend of thought. Then I stopped. I went back and grabbed the whisper into my memory like a butterfly in a net. I started to think about how we have it wrong. Instead of exalting Jesus, we tend to exalt all above Jesus. We worship the work of our hands instead of worshipping Him. When we fail to exalt Jesus in all things, we dismiss Him from our presence and fail to tap into the only power source that can make our lives meaningful.

Jesus Cannot Be Dismissed

In the plan of salvation, Jesus cannot be dismissed. Millions throughout history have fought against the truth of John 14:6 (King James Version), which Jesus says: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” The world system says that a loving God would not have so narrow a criteria. The world system says that a loving God would not send “a good man to hell just because he doesn’t believe in Jesus.” The Bible says, there in “none good but God” (Mark 10:18).

Supreme Authority

The LORD, Who is sovereign, made Jesus the only pathway that reconciles man to God: “Him hath God exalted.” Philippians 2:9-11 (NIV) says:

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

The original Greek word used for “exalted” means “to elevate above others, to raise to the highest place.” God gave Jesus the position of highest authority in Heaven and on earth. Jesus holds the highest rank of any being in every world.

The supreme authority of Jesus is further confirmed in Matthew 28:18: And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Acts 2:33 says: “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.”

Why Is Jesus Exalted?

But why is Jesus “exalted to the place of highest honor and given the name that is above all names?” Because Jesus is worthy of the highest honor. He sacrificed His life for the salvation of mankind. God exalted Jesus because He did the work of salvation and paid the price to secure eternal life for all who believe in Him. Hebrews 2:9 explains: “But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone” (NASB ©1995).

Faith in Jesus Is The Only Doorway to Salvation

Faith in the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the ONLY doorway that leads to the Living GOD. The exaltation of Jesus will never end. Ephesians 1:21 says that Jesus is “far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.”

In carrying out the plan of salvation, Jesus left His throne in heaven, was born of a virgin, walked among men and women preaching and teaching them about the Kingdom of God, forgiving their sins, and healing multitudes of their physical diseases. Yes Jesus, is the Great Physician. But He’s more than that. Yes, Jesus is a friend that is closer than a brother. But He’s more than that. Yes, Jesus is a great teacher. But He’s more than that!!! Above all, Jesus is Messiah! Jesus is the Son of God!! Let us worship Him and celebrate Him Who GOD exalted!!

May these words educate and comfort you today. Until we meet again: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10).
