The Word for Today is #Save

I remember a conversation I had years ago with a friend who was a new Christian. As often happens with Christian newbies, my friend wasn’t happy with her new life. She was actually quite self-absorbed, spoiled, and definitely not happy with all the “thou shalt nots.” My friend liked to party, flirt,  and practice “serial monogamy.” One day, during one of our Christian education sessions, she hung her head in despair and said “but I wanna have fun…” The good news is that Jesus didn’t come into the world to take away your fun. He came to save your soul and be our example in righteousness.

Remembering your last lie isn’t fun. Waking up from a drug hang over, blacking out from alcohol addiction, being panicked from a missed period, waking up yet again in a stranger’s bed and worrying why you feel so empty, visiting a doctor because you think you might have an STD, feeling that everyone has it better than you, or wondering if the police are going to come looking for you – None of these things is fun. They waste your life with worry and unnecessary pain. Jesus offers a better way. It’s the way of balance, peace, fairness, contentment, the ability to love God, our neighbors and ourself, and a willingness to sacrifice. Jesus came because without Him we would perish. Jesus came to save the world. The word for today is #save: As John 3:17 NIV says,

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

So when and if you ever find yourself missing things like: the club, alcohol, drugs, one-night-stands, or gossip, make a list of all the things that can go wrong with each of these. Then ask yourself if you’ll miss that too, and thank the Lord for giving you the strength and wisdom to get out of harm’s way!

Until next time, “Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might!”

Your friend in Christ,
